Understanding Different Bites
What is an overbite?
An overbite is a comparison between your top jaw and your bottom jaw and how they come together. An overbite is vertical: how far the top teeth come over the bottom teeth. Can you see a lot of the bottom teeth, or do you not see too much of your bottom teeth? If your top teeth are covering most of the bottom teeth, you have a deep bite.
How does overjet differ from overbite?
Let's compare it to overjet. Overjet is a comparison but more horizontal: how far the top teeth stick out in comparison to the bottom teeth. An overjet means these top teeth come out a lot in comparison to the bottom teeth.
How do braces help with my bite?
When we have braces, we often use rubber bands to help improve your bite. We want to ensure your top and bottom teeth fit together as best as they can.
